The Local and Global Networks

Posted: February 21, 2015 in Uncategorized

Thomas Friedman in his book, “The World is Flat,” talks about the ten forces that flattened the world and one is networking locally and globally. Collaboration with other networks is an excellent business strategy. “Outsourcing means taking some specific, but limited function that your company was doing in-house-such as research, call centers, and having another company perform that exact function for you and then reintegrating their work back into an overall operation. Offshoring, by contrast, is when a company takes one of its factories that is operating in Ohio and moves the entire company to China,” writes Friedman.

It is evident that money is not everything. Bartering didn’t die off as soon as money was invented. Historically, even after a civilization switched over to a steady currency, bartering was still necessary when trading with other civilizations that used different or no currency.  There must be a creation of relationships and networks. Barter networks have the capacity to prevent inflation since it can cause a unit of currency to lose value — meaning that, while 50 cents could buy a bushel of apples last year, it may only buy a single apple this year. These fluctuations can hurt a society, causing stress, uncertainty and disaster to its economy. If things get bad enough, bartering, with all its disadvantages, can become an attractive alternative. This is why people resort to bartering in situations of great poverty or disaster and this is where barter networks must do their part.

It is not surprising to see barter networks that specialize in helping barterers find each other have popped up. For a fee, a bartering network helps you find someone who is interested in what you have to offer or someone who has what you want. Along with breaking down geographical barriers, these services also simplify the timing problem with bartering. You can find what you want quicker. Also, instead of needing to complete both sides of a transaction at one time with one other person, you can accept trade credits. If you offer goods and services for barter, instead of accepting something back immediately, you can accept trade credits. Later, when you need something, you can use trade credits to purchase it.

The goal of many barter networks is to deliver new and incremental business to every BNI member, while providing world class brokering services using BNI’s fifty years of combined barter experience. Research has shown that barter network has helped thousands of businesses generate new sales, conserve precious cash flow and increase profits. With our leading payment technology platform for processing cashless business transactions and our exclusive distribution channel, member businesses utilize our digital currency “TBN dollars” to exchange goods and services, rather than use cash. The Barter Network is based in Winter Park, Florida. Their expanding membership seeks to use their trade dollars where they can, thereby conserving cash. Barter exchange creates these new business opportunities daily, but you have to be a BNI member to tap into this new business generator.

Indeed, the barter network will last for more generations and will continue to serve and generate new sales.

As a team player in the global marketplace, it would be wise if you had a coach to guide you and train you regarding what measures and steps to take. As a trader, you are like an athlete and your trade broker is your coach. Your personal barter broker will proudly serve our local and global customers and it is certainly assuring that they have been around since 1994. Trade brokers are knowledgeable, resourceful, have large selection of products and services, and our commitment to their clients.

‘           In today’s economic turmoil, it is necessary to have a competent and wise barter broker. Aside from being the coach they are also the backbone of the trade exchange. Research suggests, “Granted you need outside sales people to bring new business into your program, but it is the barter brokers working on the inside facilitating lucrative deals between members who help to keep your revenue stream flowing. For trade brokers to succeed, they must be well organized and well connected to each member of your barter company. It is important that brokers establish such essential basics as setting personal goals, learn how to effectively build rapport with members, think outside the box when presenting trade ideas to clients, and master the art of turning a small request into a big deal. “
“Trade brokers have a tremendous amount of responsibility within a barter exchange,” said Barter Trainer Tom McDowell, whose “How To Launch Your Own Highly Successful and Profitable Trade Exchange” is one of the premier barter training programs in the industry.”Brokers really determine how much volume your exchange will do, so it is imperative that they master many key facets of barter so that they are constantly thinking of innovative ways to structure a deal.”
McDowell covers the importance of trade brokers in extensive detail during his monthly Barter Trainer Program course, held either in Cleveland, Ohio, or Naples, Fla.

You may find the evidence of efficient and successful barter brokers throughout history. Studies have been made and have shown the following historical background of various barter brokers around the world.

Today, barter has been given new life with computerized trading networks and successful organizations like Barter Brokers International. Barter Brokers International is a member of the International Reciprocal Trade Association (IRTA), The Universal Currency (UC), The International Barter Alliance (IBA) and Barter Card United Kingdom (for Australia & Europe).  This provides a combined network of over 350 barter associates around the world.
